If you have ever played an MMORPG, you know the usual deal, rush for XP, reach the end level, and then grind for gear and power. Well, Guild Wars 2 is nothing like that! Are you surprised? Let me break down the reasons why Guild Wars 2 is different from any other MMORPG and why I think you should try it!
1 – It Is Free To Play
Yes, I know it is hard to believe that nowadays there is a successful MMORPG that is free-to-play, but it’s true!
The base game of Guild Wars 2 is available for free and there are no subscription fees involved either. And before you may think that a free base game is not a big deal, let me just tell you that the Guild Wars 2 base game is huge as it is! You can level up to the maximum level, master crafting, and explore all areas of the map; and that involves each race’s territory.
To be honest, the base game is enough to master your character if you don’t want to spend a dime for an expansion and be a completely free-to-play player.
2 – Dynamic Events

Dynamic events are similar to the usual quests. You talk to an NPC, he gives you a task and you work on it or not. However, this is the only similarity these both have because technically, they have huge differences.
Dynamic events can pop up at random times in most areas of the open world. Some of them can influence the world in some ways. For example, a camp may be attacked by some monsters, and the NPCs will start battling them. If you show up and help them, two things will happen. You will get rewarded for your effort, plus the camp will be accessible again to other players for teleporting.
There is a huge variety when it comes to dynamic events in Guild Wars 2. There are the very simple one-task events, and then there are the chained, multi-step events that will eventually lead up to a world boss fight!
The best thing about these events is that they happen all the time, in almost every area of the map, and that alone makes the game feel alive!
3 – Friendliest Community

When it comes to a game community, Guild Wars 2 has the best community interactions I have ever experienced!
During my gaming years, I have played Aion, Lineage, Throne and Liberty, among other MMORPGs. In each of them, the community was toxic, and in some of them (lights on Aion), it was so toxic to the point that it made me quit for years!!!
I am so glad that the Guild Wars 2 community is nothing like that. If you ask a question, there will always be someone there to answer; if you need help, people are willing to help you. There is no judgment, no trolls, no insults, and no toxicity.
This is a huge bonus for Guild Wars 2 since people are joining a game to relax and unwind, and having a community like that, a true gem, can help you feel good about the time you spend on a game.
4 – There Isn’t One End-Game
I know it’s shocking, but it is also true. In Guild Wars 2, there is variety in everything, and that also counts for the end game.
Depending on your playstyle or even your mood, you can choose one of the many different playstyles for your endgame or maybe combine some of them. Some players like to stick to the open world, but the truth is that you can also try the instanced content, which includes raids, structured PvP, and fractals. There is also a server-based open-world PvP system with siege warfare.
If you like something more relaxed, you can go for speedrunning, gold-making or start grinding the thousands of available achievements and collections. You can even go for all the puzzles available and maybe for map completion too.
You can pick whatever you want. There is no obligation to stick to only one gameplay for your end game. You decide what your endgame will be like. This kind of freedom is one of a kind, and Guild Wars 2 knows how to deliver.
5 – Solo Players Friendly

If you are playing solo, like me, then you probably know the struggles we have to face when it comes to MMORPGs. You can’t run instances without getting a group, you lose a lot of your game time waiting for others to join, etc.
Guild Wars 2 is nothing like that! It’s a game that was created mostly with solo players in mind, and that’s amazing! Don’t get me wrong, I love meeting new people and building a community in a game. However, there are times that I play completely solo, and in Guild Wars 2, I didn’t struggle at all with that.
Every aspect of the game is completely playable and rewarding, even if you are not in a group. For example, let’s say you want to join a dynamic event; all you have to do is take action. There might be 30 more people around you taking part in the event, but you still get rewarded at the end since no group is required for that!
The whole game has been based on this very mindset, and I find it fantastic! This way, every player from every background feels welcomed and can enjoy the game without hesitation.
Conclusion
To conclude, Guild Wars 2 is an amazing game that made me love it almost from day one. It is the only MMORPG that made me feel comfortable with myself even when I didn’t know what I was doing. Having the kindest community is what makes a huge difference, too. You feel free to ask without having to worry about getting bullied. If you haven’t already, you should try Guild Wars 2, and please let me know about your experience in the comments below.
