Even more than a decade after its release, GTA V remains one of the most modded games in the world. Whether you’re into roleplay, chaos, or cinematic visuals, there’s something here for every player.

Before You Start

Always back up your original files before installing mods.

In order to use most mods, you’ll need:

  • Script Hook V: Required for most script mods
  • OpenIV: For editing game files like textures or models
  • Menyoo / Simple Trainer: Essential trainers for spawning, teleporting, and tweaking game settings
  • Mod Manager: Helps you keep track of installs

Note

Mods only work in single-player. Never enter GTA Online with mods installed, as this can result in a permanent ban.

Modding Tips and What to Avoid

  • Always install mods in the ‘mods’ folder using OpenIV to avoid corrupting your base game.
  • Use RagePluginHook or ScriptHookVDotNet for advanced scripts.
  • For high-end graphic mods like NVE/QuantV, make sure your GPU has at least 8GB VRAM.

Note

Mods are NOT allowed in GTA Online.

Using any kind of mod (visual, gameplay, trainers, or file modifications) in GTA Online is strictly against Rockstar’s rules and can result in:

1. Permanent ban from GTA Online

2. Suspension of your Rockstar account

3. Wiping out all your GTA Online progress

4. Being flagged by anti-cheat software (even for harmless mods)

But What About Story Mode?

Mods ARE allowed in Story Mode (Single Player), and Rockstar generally supports the modding community for offline use.

Just make sure to:

  • Use a mods folder (via OpenIV) to separate modded files.
  • Disable all mods (or use a separate clean install) before launching GTA Online.
  • Avoid loading Script Hook V or any trainers when going online.

Note

Pro Tip: Use a Mod Manager or Launcher

Tools like RGL Launcher Profiles, Mod Organizer, or two separate installs can help you:

  • Keep one clean version for Online
  • Use another for full modded Single Player

GTA V mods are one of the reasons the game still thrives in 2025. Whether you’re into hyperrealism, chaotic fun, or total immersion, the modding community has something just for you. Have fun in Los Santos!
