Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is the latest game from developer Don’t Nod, famous for the Life is Strange and Tell Me Why episodic games. If you are familiar with these games your expectations will probably be high for this one, right?

Well, the waiting is over, because the game is scheduled to be released on 18 February 2025, at least the first part of it…

Game Overview

Release:18 Feb, 2025
Developer:DON’T NOD
Publishers:DON’T NOD
Platform:PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S
Genre:Adventure
Mode:Single-player

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage will be released in two parts. The first will be released on February 18, 2025 (Tape 1), and the second on March 18, 2025 (Tape 2).

The game features four former childhood friends who reunite after 27 years of no contact. What made them lose touch though? Well, that is because they share a secret that made them promise to never speak again.

Unlike other narrative-based games, Bloom & Rage will only have one playable character. This decision was made because having perspectives change between multiple characters can cause a disconnect for players, which is not good.

Lost Records focuses on choice, allowing players to truly feel like they are involved in the story. A story that will be impacted by the choices the player makes.

Gameplay

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage travels us back to the 90s in the fictional Michigan town of Velvet Cove. Where four friends Nora, Autumn, Kat, and Swann live through the defining summer of their lives when an unexpected event will change everything forever.

We follow the story of the now 43-year-old Swann who looks back at her teenage summer in Velvet Cove. It was a summer she spent with her friends and it was filled with warmth and the comfort of their childhood.

However, things are not as they first appear. Through the events of the game, we soon discover that the friends promised to keep a secret that made them promise to never see each other again.

Players will have to play through the game to learn the reason for the reunion as it is part of recreating the story with choice and consequences.

The game offers a dynamic dialogue system, which can change based on where you look and what you say, amazing right?

”Players can choose to ignore and interrupt other characters, which makes conversations feel more real and choices more important than ever”

The two Tapes of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage are divided based on story beats.

The first tape, Bloom, covers the month of July 1995 and focuses on the four girls’ budding friendship, while the second tape, Rage, moves into August and the event that drove them apart.

If you have played an episodic game before you will already know the anticipation created whilst waiting for the next episode to release. I am a big fan of that!

Lost Records has a lot of potential, especially when taking the studio’s previous work into account. I believe that it will probably overtake Life is Strange in popularity. But that’s something time will tell for sure. Either way, it is definitely worth giving it a try once it is released.
