For all those years and since the release of Tennis for Two back in 1958, which was basically the first interactive digital game, developers and companies alike have been following the same pattern: Build a great game and sell it to players.
In some instances, games were free to play, but getting access to more content or items meant that people had to spend some money on them.
But what if I told you that this may be the start of changing this pattern? What if I told you that in the future, players will get paid to do the same thing they always did: Play their favorite games.
We’ve already seen that happening with some titles, but we’re still far from implementing those ways to AAA titles – but that may not be the case sooner or later.
We’re not talking about rocket science here, we’re just looking at all the ways we already have found to make a game more than just a game: A way of earning while entertaining yourself.
While some developers thought of clever ways to pay their players, like we’ve seen with titles that currently using the blockchain (see cryptocurrencies and NFTs) or using a marketplace as a revenue-sharing solution, there are even more ideas that could get integrated.
