Tagged: Common Problems
Hello everyone! If you just reset, formatted, or made any changes to your Windows operating system, you may end up seeing a pop-up window being shown each time you launch a game. This is the MS-Overlay pop-up, which is usually caused if there’s a problem with the Xbox Gamebar.
How to resolve the issue:
1. Deactivate the Xbox Gamebar (fastest and easiest way)
Go to Settings -> Gaming -> Game Bar -> and disable the “Allow your controller to open Game Bar” option.
2. Install the Xbox app
If you want to use the Game Bar to record your games or connect with your friends, you’ll have to install the Xbox app and its components.
Open the Microsoft Store, search for “Xbox“, and install the application. Once it’s been installed, launch the app, sign in, and let it automatically download its components.
3. Disable Key Binding via Registry Editor
This is the manual and hardest way to resolve the issue.
In Windows, search for regedit and launch it. Delete the word Computer
and copy and paste the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR
.
Find the entry AppCaptureEnabled
(if it doesn’t exist, create one by right-clicking and selecting ‘New‘ and DWORD (32-bit) Value – name it to NoWinKeys). If you already have it, right-click on it, choose Modify, and set its value to 0
– and ensure the Base is set to Decimal. Click “OK” and restart your PC.
