After ditching Aion Classic, which has started to feel emptier than ever before, we wanted to see what Aion’s private servers looked like in 2025. Although there were a few options available, we joined EuroAion, which seemed like the best choice overall.
Now, a few months ago we tried joining EuroAion but failed miserably. I don’t remember what exactly happened, but both me and Nora were unable to install and play on the private server. At the time, our newly created gaming blog was still fresh, so we were focusing on playing and producing content – and with limited time on our hands, we stopped trying.
This time around we both installed and launched EuroAion without any issues – apart from two bugs that we quickly found – but nothing too serious. We played on the server for a few hours, both reaching level 25, and we’re also currently active – and we’ll continue to play on the private server and update this article as we progress.
What is EuroAion?
EuroAion (also known as European Aion) is currently one of the most popular private servers for Aion, and most of the time with a stable player base with half players playing as Asmodians and half as Elyos. The current game’s version is 4.6 and it includes the location of Katalams, and its server is based in Germany.

Although EuroAion may not be as populated as in the early days of Aion Classic, it has a stable player base and new players are joining often. In the lowest-level maps, there were new players leveling up, which gave me more hope that I wouldn’t play completely alone. For the first time in ages, this time around I went with Elyos, just because I have already played in the Asmo side for so many years.
The folks behind it say that the 4.6 version is the most balanced one, and leveling up takes a lot more time than you may have used to in a newer version of the game. EuroAion’ also supports multiple languages, including Deutsch, Français, English, Español, Русский, and Türk.
During level-up in the lowest-level maps, the game was as stable and smooth as it goes, and none of the quests I did had any bugs. I even tried all the little ones – you know, those ones that almost no one completes because they give you little to no XP? Those ones. I wanted to test how well the gave behaved, and it did more than well.
How to download and install EuroAion
I’ve tested this with the latest version of Windows 11, but it should work just as fine for older versions of Windows too.
- Visit EuroAion.com and click on the “Download Client” menu option.
- Choose how to download the game:
- Download and launch their Launcher (which will start downloading the game).
- Download through torrent (that’s the download method that I’ve used).
- Sign up for a new account as you wait for the game’s file to download.
- Once all the files have been downloaded, unzip the “StartGame” file.
- Launch the
euroaion.exe. - In the EuroAion Launcher click on “Check” to check for new updates, and if there are, wait until they’re downloaded.
- Click on “Play” to launch the game.
Note
Keep in mind that once you complete all the steps, each time that you want to launch EuroAion, you’d have to visit your installation folder and run the “euroaion.exe” program. You can right-click on it -> Sent to – > Desktop.
Now, if you face any issues launching the game, make sure that you have the following programs installed on your computer:
When I installed the game for the first time, it kept freezing the moment I was selecting a server. The issue was resolved by installing the DirectX (June 2008).
Another thing that took me a few seconds to realize is that after your registration, to log into your account both on the website and in-game, you need to use your username and not your email address – thank me later!
Starting as a new player in 2025
Once I logged in to EuroAion I immediately went to the character creation screen. I wanted to create two different classes: A Gladiator and a Muse. Although Gladiators are basically my most preferred option, as I haven’t played a Muse for a few years now, and I wanted to see how powerful they were on this server.
Unfortunately, that’s where I found the second problem with EuroAion: Its character creation screen was flickering every two seconds. It was mostly black, unable to see the character and essentially, unable to customize it. I wasn’t able to resolve the issue, so I just created a Muse without changing much and went straight to the game.
As you can guess, EuroAion is not a new private server, meaning that there are many players who have already progressed through the whole game. As a new player, you’ll face some brutal PVP from enemies that have way better gear than you, and in Aion, that means getting dead before you can even react. Fighting the big guys means that you’ll first have to spend lots of time PVEing and upgrading everything.
Although leveling up is not as easy as it sounds, EuroAion is truly helping new players progress faster. As you start the game, you get a very powerful weapon that you can use to simply kill each mob with 1-2 simple attacks (no skills needed). Once you’ve hit level 10, you also get a free powerful armor that’s enough top-notch to carry you through the game’s story and main campaigns.
Along with the armor and weapon, you’ll also be getting many free scrolls (both for running faster and attack/magic speed), lots of health and MP potions, and the drop rate is so high, that you’ll constantly find yourself picking up manastones that will increase your stats even more – yes, I’m still taking about the early levels.
If that’s not much, new players also get Amulets that give them bonus XP for a period of time (I got one free from the game that works for 1 day).
There are other small awards that help new players, making the level-up progress faster and easier than ever before – something that I very much appreciate.
But even getting all that help, it still means that you’ll have to complete many quests and farm for lots of hours until you hit full level. Remember those light-blue quests that we stopped doing in the official versions a long time ago? Well, you’ll have to complete many of those if you want to reach the highest level. But not to think negatively, because those quests will get you back all the nostalgia that you after.
Unfortunately, one of the newest features that I really miss in EuroAion is the fast-traveling option that automatically transfers your character to the right NPC. Those are very important when it comes to saving time from some really useless quests that make you walk almost all the map just to kill two mobs and talk to a few NPCs – but hey, at least now you get to enjoy each centimeter of the game.
What you need to know about EuroAion’s online store
What I found to be very frustrating with the official servers of Aion was the simple fact that not only do you have to pay each month to access all of the game’s functionalities, but getting premium skins, XP Amulets, or even a mount, it was simply too expensive.
When it comes to EuroAion, on the other hand, not only it’s completely free to play, but it has an online store that has tons of skins and items that you can get without spending a fortune. Getting a few beautiful skins from the store is also a way to support the team behind the server and contribute to their server’s monthly expenses.
To be able to buy anything from the store, you’ll first have to get EuroAion’s coins, which you can later use to get anything that you need. As of this moment of writing, you can get 600 coins for €10.00. With that in mind, you can get some of the best skins for your wings for just 100 coins – if that’s not a good price, I don’t know what is.
EuroAion’s store currently includes many options, including Amulets, Candies, Coupons, Mounts, Paint, Pets, Rollback Scrolls, Titles, Housekeeping materials, Emotions/Actions/Skills, Sets, Suits, Hats, Shields, Weapons, and Wings.
You can use each item for only one character, and if you have multiple classes, you can choose for which one to get it before completing the purchase.
EuroAion’s population vs. Aion Classic
I didn’t join EuroAion with many expectations. Deep inside me I truly believed that Aion had finally died. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Aion Classic on the European versions still has many active players, but I didn’t like the changes, hated the Beluslan-based new map, and you had no chance whatsoever to gear up properly.
Apart from that, paying each month to play a game that takes so much time to get you ready to fight equally with all the other players it’s basically bad for your savings. And the store was also pretty expensive, and the rewards were less than what we’d expected.
In EuroAion things are different. The game immediately helps you level up by giving you free armor and weapons, and although you’d have to spend a good amount of time leveling up, it’s easier, faster, and more enjoyable than ever before. During our level up we saw a few new players here and there, with the higher-level cities being filled. The LFG is also pretty active, so you won’t have any trouble finding any groups.
With all that in mind, we will keep playing in EuroAion for a few days and see how it goes, how many active players it has on a daily basis, if it has stable gameplay, and so much more – so an update will come soon.
