From all the games that we’ve been waiting for, Amanta (previously known as Project Mugen) must be one of the most (weirdly) interesting ones. It’s different, it looks fun, it has tons of things to do, and it’s like the GTA 6 but Anime.
When the game got announced at Gamescom on August 24, 2023, I wasn’t really expecting much. Watching the trailer, though, was a pleasure, and it felt like I was waiting for a game that, if done right, has a very high possibility of becoming something really great.
I mean, it’s like you took a team filled with Spider-Man fans, Anime addicts, mythical lovers, and some other dudes with different kinds of ideas, and gave them a new game to work on.

If you haven’t heard about Amanta, it’s basically an n upcoming free-to-play urban open-world RPG developed by Hangzhou-based studio Naked Rain along with NetEase Montreal, and published by NetEase.
It’s a title that blends cyberpunk and Genshin Impact aesthetics with elements from favorite games like Spider-Man and Grand Theft Auto.
Yes, I know it has become very boring, but we’re getting a GTA 6 in anime style rather than GTA 6.

Oh, did I mention that it has day and night circles? I personally can’t wait to see what the city looks like at night and in anime-like graphics. Ananta is also set in a unique “mystic urban open world” where humans coexist with the supernatural.
In this world, urban legends become reality, and from the first city that we’ve seen, known as Nova Inception Urbs (which is designed in a Japanese urban style), everything there is dynamic, and unexpected events may happen at any time.

As a player, you have lots of freedom on what you do, and you can run, ride bikes, drive cars, climb walls, do some parkour, grappling, and swing between buildings and skyscrapers (now that I am writing all of that, it also looks like they got a few things from the Dying Light franchise), and with no stamina when traveling, you can basically discover the whole city.
Speaking of the city, future updates are expected to give players even more cities, including ones from Europe and the USA.
On the other hand, there are tons of other things to do, such as picking up cats, playing games, interacting with objects and players, and everything can be broken (such as the signs being knocked down or barrels flying away).

When it comes to battles, things are getting even more interesting. The combat system includes blades, hand-to-hand combat, and a mix of guns, but we’re expecting to see even more options in the near future.
If you want to recover lost memories and unlock abilities, you’ll have to complete all the quests and challenges, and once you do, there are even boss fights that you can chase.
You play as an “Infinite Trigger,” an elite Agent within the Anti-Chaos Directorate (A.C.D.). Your primary mission is to investigate and combat these anomalies and paranormal phenomena that are plunging Nova City into a state of “Chaos.”

A significant part of the protagonist’s journey involves recovering lost memories and unlocking dormant abilities.
While the main storyline is described as relatively short (around 30 minutes of gameplay at the start before branching off), the overall game is mainly focused on larger player engagement, including doing character-specific side quests and exploring Ananta’s open world.
We also got an idea about the game’s main protagonists and their abilities:
Picture | Name | Description | Abilities |
---|---|---|---|
– | The Protagonist (Infinite Trigger) | The player character, a top supernatural investigator. | Expected to gain various abilities throughout their journey. |
– | Taffy | Has a laid-back philosophy, often avoiding anything annoying, enjoying cola, and taking frequent breaks. She dreams of becoming a legendary investigator. | Wields a mallet that can transform into a bike for traversal. |
![]() | Bansy | A street artist with a love for destruction. | Wields a gun that fires laser-like projectiles, leaving splashes of paint in her wake, making her attacks visually vibrant and destructive. |
![]() | Alan | A social butterfly who excels at making friends and is also a part-time model who stays on top of his studies. | Wields a yo-yo in combat, with attacks that sometimes produce snowflake effects. |
![]() | Dila | Shrouded in mystery, she’s on a mission to investigate a meteor disaster. | Deeply connected to celestial events and can control meteors herself. |
![]() | Mechanika (Meg) | Known as a “ghost worker” with a quirky love for French fries and a high-energy stage presence. | Can animate machines and is renowned for hosting massive concerts alongside her mechanical creations. |
![]() | Ringo | Confirmed as a playable character, no other details. | – |
![]() | Aileen | Appears to have a maid-like aesthetic in some early art. | – |
![]() | Lykaia | – | – |
But those are just a few that we know of, watching the official trailer will give you a better glance at what this world includes. For example, you can see a black-haired female with a sword and a bow, a white-haired horned female with a bat, and so on.
