The first time we heard about AION 2 was back in 2018 when NCSoft confirmed that the game was in development. Since then we didn’t have any other information about the upcoming MMORPG. But finally, the wait is over since finally we started to get some important news about it!

Game Overview

AION 2 is going to be a prequel to the original AION, set in a different era, 900 years earlier in the game’s lore.

It’s entirely designed with Unreal Engine 5, transforming it into a next-gen MMORPG especially when you compare it to AION Classic. With such an ambitious development team that makes AION 2 look so promising, we can only expect the best when it comes to storytelling, visuals, and gameplay.

    Gameplay & Features

From what we know so far AION 2 will be different from the original AION. Here’s what we know about it:

    • Cross-Platform Play: The game will be launching on PC and mobile (iOS and Android).
    • Focused on PvE: The game will still be offering PvP gameplay, however, this time PvE is going to be the main focus.
    • Server Integration Events: These rift events will allow players from multiple servers to take part in HUGE PvPvE scenarios.
    • No fixed classes: Forget all you know about AION’s original classes. This time, players customize roles through weapon choices and skills. When you equip a different weapon you will change playstyle and you will unlock new skills depending on your gear and progression.
    • Gliders & Mounts: Customizable gliders and mounts will be used not only for travel but in tactical combat roles too.
    • Action-oriented Combat System: Forget the tab-target system. AION 2 will be offering a more dynamic combat system focused on dodging and combos.

    Monetization Model

It looks like AION 2 will follow the monetization path of Throne & Liberty (T&L). Meaning that they will follow a Free-to-Play model based on battle passes, cosmetics, etc.

Hopefully this time they will add fewer pay-to-win mechanics since we all know that didn’t age well with AION Classic.

    Release Date

We should be expecting a global launch in late 2025. However, since everything is still fresh and things can change anytime, we will keep you updated for any change that may happen or trigger a delay in the launch of AION 2.

    What Else to Expect

There are things we can expect and things we hope to see in the future. Here are some of them:

    • Challenging Instanced Dungeons & Boss Raids with their difficulty level scaling from Normal to Mythic!
    • Open World Bosses will be spawn on timers.
    • There is a chance that guilds will probably be able to form alliances, declare war, and claim territory. (I am all in for that to be honest)
    • Seamless open world with fewer loading screens that will support dynamic weather and day/night cycles.
    • We may also see the addition of floating islands and fortresses.
    • Cinematic Questlines.
    • Cross-progression will be available so switching between PC and mobile will not be a problem since you will not be losing your progress.

These are only a few of the things we can expect in AION 2 and of course, we can only hope for more since the game hasn’t been released yet.

    Upcoming Live Stream

Later this month, on May 29, 2025, a big livestream debut is scheduled and will give us some extra fresh details.

The live stream will be available on AION’s 2 new website and the official Aion 2 YouTube channel.

Stay tuned because, on this live stream, we will get all the important information we all need and want!

It’s clear that AION 2 will be able to compete with modern MMORPGs like Throne & Liberty, Lost Ark, etc. How do you feel about that and what are your thoughts and opinions on everything mentioned in this article? Let me know by submitting your comment down below.
